The Legacy Media Center is the information site for students, teachers, and parents.  The media center is open from 9:00 to 4:15 daily for students to borrow books, use computers, research topics, or read newspapers and magazines.  The media center staff welcomes parents to visit the media center at any time.

Parents are encouraged to consult the media specialist if they have any questions or concerns about the reading habits of their children.  Parents are also welcome to borrow items from the parent resource collection, which is funded by the PTSA.   This collection contains items that will help parents to guide their students academically, as well as resources that offer advice for parents of middle school students.

Media Center Procedures

All students will attend a media center orientation at the beginning of each school year.  Please visit our online student orientation to learn more about the media center!  Anyone who is interested in knowing more about the media center book collection may visit the SUNLINK Web site, which provides online access to all of our titles.

Students are welcome to use computers in the media center before, during, and after school if they have returned a signed Code of Student Conduct form.  The Code of Student Conduct is sent home with students at the beginning of each school year.

Legacy students are encouraged to read 2008-2009 Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books.

Please visit the 2008-2009 Sunshine State Young Reader's
Awards Program Master List
Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program Master List of Titles 2008-2009

Students who read three books on this list by March 1, 2009 will be eligible to vote for their favorite book and will be entered in a drawing for exciting prizes.
The media center staff arranged for Orange County election officials to provide voting booths for the voting in
March 2009. The election officials explained the democratic voting process of the United States government, and the participating students cast their votes on the actual ballots that are used by voters in primary and general elections. The results of our voting will be sent to the Florida Department of Education, and the statewide winning title will be announced in May 2009. The winning 2008 title is The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.
All students who read all fifteen of the Sunshine State Books are encouraged to try out for the Legacy Battle of the Books team. The next Orange County Battle of the Books competition will be in April 2009.  The Legacy Battle of the Book try outs will begin in December 2008. Students who are interested in the 2008-2009 Battle of the Books team may join the Battle of the Books Club this fall. If you wish to have more information about the Battle of the Books, please contact Media Specialist Rebecca Gross.

A Few Words from the Media Specialist:

Strong reading skills are essential for students to achieve academic success.  Please encourage your children to read.  If you can reserve at least twenty minutes every day for your children to read, you will be amazed at how quickly their vocabulary and reading skills improve.  Regular reading habits will lead to higher academic achievement throughout middle school, high school, and college.

If you would like suggestions for recommended reading, please feel free to contact me.  I will be glad to help you compile a list of titles that are specifically suited to the interests and needs of your children.

Happy Reading!
